The Passing of the Grand Dame

Our little Christmas Kitten aka Christie.....born on Halloween, or near it, back in 1990 passed today at the age of 20. A holiday gift to my youngest son, he went with me to the Cleveland Animal Shelter to pick out his own kitten.

Truth be told, Christie was not the one that caught my eye....but after all, it was my son's choice and the small little black and white puff ball came home. I have to laugh when I think that her ears were almost larger than her head. Thankfully, she grew into them.

We will miss you Miss Chris....you have brought us 20 years of joy, smiles and love.

  1. I am so sorry Linda. Here are a few words that have helped me when losing a fur kid:

    Rainbow Bridge Poem

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

  2. So sorry for you loss. I still cry when I think of our Sammy, who we had to put down Thanksgiving weekend several years ago.

  4. What a sweet little face - looks like our Boo-Boo. I'm sorry to hear of her passing, but glad to hear she had 20 years of a great kitty life.

  5. Our Alvin lived to 18. I know the way this feels. I had had him almost as long as my youngest son who was the one who picked him out. What a lot of love they give us.

  7. So sorry for your loss. I had to put down a kitty last year and it still hurts. The kitty we still have looks just like your Christmas kitty, and she sits by my elbow at the computer everyday. I think "tuxedo cats" are the most classy of all the cats.
